EUROPE - FRANCE - AUVERS-SUR-OISE

This is the town Auvers-sur-Oise we visited with Monique's uncle, Daniel and his wife Michele. It's a town North of Paris where Van Gogh lived for three months in 1890 after spending a year in an asylum. His brother Theo arranged for Van Gogh to be under the care of Dr. Gichet. Van Gogh was tremendously prolific here and painted 76 paintings. He committed suicide while he was here, in June of 1890. All around the town Van Gogh did some of his famous and beautiful paintings and the town has set up copies of his paintings in front of the scenes he's painted. like this church. To see the paintings Van Gogh did here follow this link: http://www.vangoghgallery.com/painting/by_period/auvers.htm

We had just figured out how to take close-up photos with our digital camera and Monique went a little crazy with all the flowers here

More scenes from this little town including on the bottom left the entrance to Dr. Gachet, Van Gogh Doctors house, with plaques for other impressionists such as Pissaro and Cezanne.
